1 - This installation is a development of a work I did in 2000, at the Galeria Parangolé, when I was invited to participate in a show that had a religious theme, and one of the works I presented was a cross made with bags of purple candy-floss. Since then, I have been looking for an opportunity to work again with this material, as I found it very inspiring.
2- My experience of working with museum exhibitions has been teaching me to pay more attention to issues related to communication between space, work and viewer. Once I saw the Galeria de Bolso I knew the space was perfect for the project I had in mind. This gallery is basically a shop window in a comercial area of the city. It is a very busy area during the day, full of people selling a bit of everything on the streets, at night it is a pickup area for transvestites and prostitutes. So, I realized that working with candy-floss here would give me a chance to establish contact with a different kind of audience and would give an interesting visibility for the work.
3- This installation intended to exploit the aesthetic and decorative qualities of the material (plastic bags of candy-floss). It was important to me, particularly in this space, to stimulate visual pleasure as a key to involve the senses of the passers-by.
4- To me, this project was, above all, a project of painting.
