My Online Life
- ThoughtStorms is my personal wiki. A compost heap for random thoughts and ideas. (As of late 2005 password-protected due to wiki-spam, ugh!)
- Blahsploitation is my weblog. More arbitrary thoughts, links and venting on current events.
- Platform Wars is my weblog about, well, platform wars, theory and practice.
- SmartDisorganized. Consciousness raising for Smart, Disorganized Individuals, SdiDesk and GeekWeaver news. Plus anything else wiki and some thinking about MicroISVs.
- My Tribe Profile if you want to network with me :-)

My Professional Life
... is in flux since I moved to Brazil. I'm mainly a programmer who has developed database-backed websites and desktop applications. I've also been paid to write ballet music and teach MBAs about weblogs, wikis and Edge Competences.
I worked for two years as a substitute professor at the University of Brasília, teaching undergraduate courses on "Advanced Programming" (the down-and-dirty C course), "Object Oriented Programming" (in Java) and "Programming Languages" (comparisons between C, Java, Python, Haskell, Prolog, XML, Javascript and anything else that caught my attention.)
I'm now have a full time job doing a range of project management type stuff in an enterprise software company. I seem to spend most of my time tracking things in spreadsheets and making coffee.
Sometimes I'm available to hire. Generally, I can write Python, PHP, Perl, Java, C++, Visual Basic, Smalltalk, SQL, Javascript etc. But I vastly prefer scripting languages. And if you're building high-level applications for customers with continuously changing requirements, I recommend that you should too. (WARNING : I'm an opinionated employee, who's likely to think a lot about how you do things. ;-) )
My Coding Life
- GeekWeaver - the software which this page and a lot of this site is written in. GeekWeaver is a program to create web-sites, unashamedly aimed at geeks rather than mere mortals. If you've always hated that fact that HTML doesn't have a way of defining your own abstractions, then GeekWeaver is for you. Everyone else, stay well clear.
- SdiDesk is a personal wiki-like notebook for Windows (I know, sorry) with some other cool stuff like basic diagramming. You can download it here. Version 0.2.2 came out a couple of years ago. It's gone a little bit dormant although it can be incredibly useful.
- Gbloink! - the fun, experimental music software.
My Musical Life
- Gbloink! - the fun, experimental music software.
- I've made amateur "bedroom" electronica for most of my adult life ....
- BeatBlog - my weblog of beats and musical sketches from around 2001 - 2003
Alt.Money
I'm fascinated by money : what it is, and how it works. I'm a co-founder of the OPTIMAES project to investigate alternative currencies and economic systems. I can also be found posting regularly on the Alt.Money tribe.
Other Interests
These are some other things I think about too much and bore my friends by trying to talk about :
- "Organic" architecture and the emergent organization of cities and societies
- Wikis and personal hypertexts. (And, naturally, the rest of the web 2.0 suite of weblogs, YASNs, syndication feeds, mashups etc.)
- Modules, granularity, abstraction, anarchy, systems, patterns, form.
- Individuals and how to recognize them.
- The coming Netocracy
All of which get discussed on my wiki
